Weinan is situated in the east-central area of Shaanxi Province, separated from Shanxi and Henan provinces by the Yellow River. It is bordered by Xian and Xianyang in the west, and neighboring Yan'an and Tongchuan in the north. The area spans for 182.3 kilometers from the north to south, and 149.7 kilometers from west to east, which has been taken a important role in the new land bridge of Asia and Europe, also is considered as the “east gate” of Shaanxi province as well as the west provinces to the middle and eastern regions of China. Five geomorphic types can be found by the axes of Wei River, and mountains and plateau forms are in both north and south sides, and the plain covers the center. The alluvial plain formed by the River Wei is the widest area in Qinchuan. With the administrative Division of 1 district (Linwei), 2 county-level cities (Huayin, Hancheng), 8 counties (Huaxian, Tongguan, Dali, Pucheng, Chengcheng, Baishui, Heyang, Fuping), 254 townships and 3236 administrative villages, it has a population of 5,400,000 , within it there are 2,400,000 agricultural labors out of 4,300.000 agricultural population, and covers an area of 13,000 square kilometers, in which 8,730,000 mus are the cultivated land, and 2 mus for each person.

 

Weinan owns splendid mountains and rivers, superior natural conditions and abundant agricultural resources, the climate feature belongs to the monsoon climate of semi-humid and semi-arid, meanwhile, it also enjoys four distinct seasons, plentiful sunshine, favorable temperatures, and enough rainfall. With flat topography, and fertile soil, it’s very suitable for the development of agriculture, forestry, and animal husbandry. The city has more than 10 kinds of animal in captivity, some of them won the fame of great quality, such as qinchuan cattle, the guanzhong donkey and milk goats, besides, there also obtain more than 80 kinds of crops and forestry, particularly like wheat, corn, beans, cotton, rapeseed, peanuts, apples, crisp pears, vegetables, tobacco, pepper and watermelon.

Weinan is one of the major agricultural producing areas and production bases in Shaanxi even for the entire country, and it is known as "Shaanxi granary" and "Shaanxi Cotton Warehouse”. The output of the major agricultural products like grain, oilseeds, fruit, big livestock, poultry, and eggs accounts for 1/5-1/7 of the province's total contribution, for cotton acreage, it accounts for 4/5 coverage of the province planting land, for the acreage and output of apple production, it respectively accounts for 1/5 and 1/4.

The city has 43 million mu of apple have passed the inspection from the China Green Food Development Center, and identified as green food production base and became the largest production base of green fruit within province even in China. Five fruit production bases have been built: Baishui, Chengcheng, Heyang, Pucheng, Fuping, Hancheng and Weibei are high-quality apple bases; Pucheng, Linwei, Fuping are the main bases of high-quality pears; Dali, Linwei, Huaxian are peach, plum, apricot, grapes and other seasonal fruit bases; along Huang, Wei,Luo River are the jujube bases; processing of special fruit bases are in Guanzhong irrigation area.

seven national commodity grain county bases (Pucheng, Fuping, Linwei, Heyang, Chengcheng, Dali, Hancheng), four state-level high-quality cotton county bases (Dali, clinical Wei, Pucheng, China County), eight state-level high-quality wheat county bases (Pucheng, Fuping, Linwei, Heyang, Chengcheng, Dali, Hancheng, Huaxian),three national dairy goat county bases (Linwei, Dali, FuPing), three national commodity fish county bases (Dali, Heyang, Huayin), and six provincial-level high-quality apple county bases(Baishui, Chengcheng, Pucheng, HeYang, Fuping, Hancheng) had been successively established in here.

 60 mus of vegetables cultivate land with greenhouse facilities has been set, and the facilities area covers more than 80% of its land. Dali, Pucheng, Linwei, Fuping, and Huaxian are established as vegetable production bases with their own management specialties. The cultivation management basically standardized and 10 pollution-free vegetables production bases have been built. Annual bulk supply of various types of vegetables is realized, especially for these high quality greenhouse vegetables, which annually provide the market with 19 series and more than 80 varieties of 1.2 million tons off season vegetables, the products are exported to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hong Kong and Macao. Asparagus in Huaxian and Tongguan are even exported to Japan, Western Europe and other developed countries.

    Weinan is production bases for the well-known Qinchuan cattle, Guanzhong donkey, and Guanzhong dairy goat. With annual output of crop straw for more than 200 million tons, it has the grassland for more than 60 million mus. The city keeps 430,000 cattle herds, 850, 000, sheep, 800,000 pigs, and 10.3 million poultry, the output of meat, milk, egg are respectively 10.6 million tons, 122,000 tons, and 7.6 million tons, it has 50 different types of feed-processing with the annual production capacity of more than 60 million tons, and has 2 national top hundred feed-processing enterprises and 4 provincial top ten enterprises. There are 11 dairy processing enterprises, and their annual fresh milk processing capacity is 120,000; 9 meat processing enterprises, and their fresh meat annual processing capacity is 5800 tons, for egg processing enterprises, there are 3, with annual production of 3,500 tons of eggs. Besides, the output value of animal husbandry could reach 1.4 billion.
